Project Brief
The former Telegraph building on Corporation Street in Coventry (once home to the city’s newspaper for more than 50 years) has been transformed into a contemporary 88-room hotel. As part of the redevelopment, its commercial kitchen required a high performance ventilation system that could deliver excellent extraction while overcoming the challenges of the existing building layout.
A key consideration was a large structural column running through the main cookline, requiring a bespoke solution that would integrate seamlessly into the space without compromising hygiene, safety or performance.
The Solution
A bespoke Corsair Vortex Airstream kitchen canopy was installed to provide efficient ventilation throughout the main kitchen. The system incorporates both supply air and induction supply technology, improving extraction performance while maintaining a comfortable working environment.
Perforated supply diffusers reintroduce fresh air into the kitchen at low velocity, helping to avoid uncomfortable draughts for kitchen staff. The canopy was carefully designed to work around the existing structural column and fully sealed to prevent the ingress of vermin, maintaining high hygiene standards.
To further support a clean and practical kitchen environment, services to the cooking equipment were housed within a dedicated services distribution unit. The installation was completed with recessed low energy LED lighting and an ANSUL fire suppression system, providing automatic protection for each individual fire risk.
